ARCA in context :
the actuarial profession |
|
|
|
|
The actuarial profession is well known and respected in business
and in government for its work in relation to measuring long term
financial commitments for companies, individuals and even
governments and in managing these commitments where future
conditions are uncertain.
The aim of ARCA is to bring these skills to bear in a research
environment to address major long term policy questions of
relevance to Governments, corporations and the community. |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
| |
 |
Leveraging its strengths in forging influential connections
between industry, academia and
policy-makers (both domestic and
international), ARCA facilitates the undertaking and public
dissemination of research on actuarial-related issues which is:
-
of the highest quality;
-
independent; and
- relevant to contemporary
policy and business issues.
|

|
Through its cross-party approach in connecting industry,
actuaries and researchers in order to identify commonalities of
research interest, ARCA:
-
remains focused on the development of actuarial
research which advances contemporary commercial and policy issues;
-
creates opportunities for long-term policy and strategic
thinking to develop against a sound and relevant theoretical
framework;
-
achieves efficiencies and strategic gains in the
establishment and conduct of research relationships between
commercial interests and researchers; and
-
facilitates the development of research questions which
might not otherwise reach the public and corporate agenda.
Through its emphasis on achieving the core values of quality,
independence and relevance in the research facilitated by it,
ARCA ensures that its research portfolio is contemporary,
practical,
influential and rigorous.

Key outcomes for
policy-makers |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
 |
For policy-makers, ARCA creates additional value by:
-
defining 'research-ready' questions in a manner that can be
tackled;
-
driving research that provides quantified answers to advance evidence-based
policy making;
-
providing objective and independent input to the public
policy making process; and
-
creating opportunities to address long-term issues affecting
public policy decisions.

Key outcomes for
industry |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
 |
For industry, ARCA creates additional value by:
-
making research more
efficient and effective;
-
overcoming information
asymmetries in qualifying and quality-controlling research;
-
providing an independent and
trusted branding with more influence and respect than self-funded
research; and
-
maximising corporate welfare
through policy-maker and public approval of the company as a
good corporate citizen.

Key outcomes for
researchers |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
 |
For researchers, ARCA creates additional value by:
-
providing access to key industry relationships, contacts and
decision-makers;
-
arranging the provision of funding for specified projects;
-
improving the possibility of receiving Australian Research Council grants by capturing industry engagement;
-
opening pathways to research that might not otherwise secure
traction;
-
promoting research to a very broad commercial and
regulatory audience, increasing the dynamic impact of
research and chances of securing further future funding;
-
bridging the perspective and agenda divide between industry
and academia in order to achieve research objectives; and
-
contributing commercial project management expertise.
